I have seen large fish landed, but think that you have better control with a Rod and Reel when the Carp are larger http://www.carp-reels.co.uk/carp-reels/fox-carp-reels. Then dunk it in the water, this will give you the weight you need to get distance, and also the ability to cast under trees as the hook point is protected by the bread. The real seat is Berkeley's own design and is very compfy to cast with and play fish on. They are stunning looking rods and im am over the moon with how they cast and play fish. I never use controller floats, just simply attach 8-12lb line straight through to a specialist size 8 carp hook. The rule is floating baits, and if its a few inces below the surface then its not a floating bait.
As for feeling the lead down, and feeling for the "donk", will depend on what the lake bed is. I usually find that they will take tutti-frutti when most of the flavours havent provoked a bite.

It also has no memory so it is very easy to work with. These were a dream to use.
